With so many different styles coming about in music these days, the public needs an artist that can be versatile and continue to bring great songs along with the competition. Khalfani J. Faulkner AKA KAL!CO meets this criteria. Born in Harvey, Illinois and raised by his mother in the harsh environment of gangs, drugs and sex, KAL!CO had to learn at a very early age how to take care of himself using the same negative things that surrounded him. Throughout his entire life, KAL!CO was infatuated with music listening to The Dungeon Family, Bone Thugs n Harmony, Three 6 Mafia, Eminem and most local Chicago rap acts. It was during his years in junior high school when he decided he wanted to pursue a career in music as he began to see the world of battle rapping, producing and freestyling. As he began to scribble rhymes in his notebooks, he started rapping around his friends usually talking about the people around him at the time. As he got better, he was encouraged by friends to enter the school talent show competing against his peers. After blowing the audience and judges away, he was disqualified for rapping about the principal during his performance. Being known as a defiant student he was proud of himself and decided to continue making music. In his freshman year of high school, KAL!CO was challenged by upper class students to battle being already known as a rapper. Defeating his opponents with incredible punch lines he developed a style of political and street knowledge taking shots at the government, police, people who brought negativity towards him and other rappers. As he got better he began to make his own beats, home studios and mixtapes that rotated through his area using his own street team and money. KAL!CO makes music for the love of it and he continues to do that independently everyday.
