Matt Herbst
Composer / Instrumental
Los Angeles, CA
Film Composer

Matt Herbst is a composer who specializes in writing music for movies.  He was introduced to music at an early age as a performer in piano and alto saxophone which led to his interest in becoming a composer.  He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Hartford with a double major in piano performance and music composition and was immediately accepted into the University of Southern California's world reknowned Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program. While there he studied with veteran composers David Spear and Jack Smalley as well as industry composers John Frizzell (Gods And Generals, The Reaping), Joel McNeely (Supercop, Pooh's Heffalump Movie), and Christopher Young (Hellraiser, The Grudge, Spiderman 3).

Although he enjoys most all genres he has a predilection for dramatic action, thrillers, science fiction, comedy, and animation.  Mr. Herbst was a recipient of the BMI Award for excellence in film scoring.  He is currently scoring a drama/thriller feature to be completed this spring.

Attack And Chase

Jazzy Pursuit

1920's style big band music for a car chase recorded with a 15 piece group at the Spielberg Scoring Stage

Dark Comedy Credits

Cartoony and quirky music accompanying the credits of a dark comedy recorded with a combination of 12 piece live ensemble at the Spielberg Scoring Stage mixed with piano and percussion samples at home studio

Country Biking

Light orchestral music of a carefree and easygoing nature accompanying two women riding through the countryside and produced completely in home studio using samples

Ode To Herrmann

A tribute to Psycho and Vertigo composer Bernard Herrmann representing the otherworldy, melancholic, and hopeful nature of his music and recorded at Capitol Records with a 35 piece string orchestra
