Young and innovative photographer on the rise

M. Scott Whitson graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a BFA in Photography. He first got his start taking pictures at hardcore shows and skate parks, and took his first darkroom class at Woodward Skate Camp at the age of 16. As soon as the paper hit the developer and an image began to emerge, he was hooked.
Since then, he’s been on a constant path of progression through many different styles, subject matters and photographic processes. Throughout his schooling, Whitson was exposed to a wide range of artists, influencing his work in many ways.
He’s explored themes rich in social commentary, such as politics, feminism, poverty and the degradation of urban and rural dwellings, the Israeli/Palestinian dispute, and others that either through association or observation, have struck a chord or effected his perspective on life.
Favoring variety over a single narrow style, Whitson prefers to take on each project as its own separate entity in order to fully capture the unique vision of each client and each job.
In the last several years he has turned his focus toward fashion and editorial work, attempting to create pictures that exhibit an intersection of fine art and commercial imagery.
