Sara L Russell
Poet
East Grinstead, England , GBR
Poet, cartoonist, artist, fantasy/portrait artist

Founder of Poetry Life & Times, now a Resident Poet and I still do the Perils of Norris 3D cartoon.

Appeared on BBC4 a couple of years ago in a 3-part documentary about romantic fiction, called "Reader I Married Him", which was produced and directed by Daisy Goodwin. This series was later repeated on BBC4.

My poems have been published in a large number of anthologies and several e-books on CD ROM, including Pinky's Little Book of Shadows and A Way With Words, published by Kedco Studios in the USA. While working on these books I learned about designing pages for e-books, with sound and animations. An article about Pinky's Little Book of Shadows appeared in the Mirror newspaper when it was first published.

I have poetry pages on AuthorsDen and Creative Thinkers International, my poems have also appeared in Sonnetto Poesia, a quarterly magazine by Richard Vallance. My sonnets have been quoted by people I have never met, variously on MySpace, also on photographer's website, and more strangely, my YouTube poetry video recital "Sales Warriors" turned up on a commercial website about the UK January Sales. I don't mind people quoting my poems as long as they credit me as being the poet.

I like drawing famous people, especially men. I was lucky enough to meet the actor Matthew Macfadyen last year, when he was appearing in the Bruce Norris play "The Pain and the Itch". I saw the play twice, with a group of other Matthew Macfadyen fans I had met online. We had fantastic days out and enjoyed the play both times. Matthew was kind and gracious, signing a lot of autographs for us. On the second occasion I was able to give him a portrait I had drawn of him in a scene from the play, with other actors around him.

I work part-time every afternoon for a local publishing company that produces industrial directories. In the mornings and evenings I am free to write, draw or go to the local gym and swimming pool.

People I would love to draw from a live sitting: Matthew Macfadyen, Noel Fielding, Alice Cooper.... they would probably distract me by chatting and not keeping still, but it would be fun. Noel Fielding is an artist himself, of a very bold graphic type, and he might consider my style old-fashioned. But he would be fun to draw.

CommentWelcome Sara!

It's so good to see you here on Nextcat. It is an honor to be in your company here and at all other online venues. I have been reading your work for a few years. You have so many signature pieces which I am fond of. I commend you on such fine work that is extremely poetic, artistic and refined for the ever-expanding marketplace. I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS remember you, Sara L. Russell for doing the interview with me at Poetry Life & Times. That particular interview did more for me and my writing career than you know! So thanks for that. All the best to us in the New Year 2008! Be well always, Sara...

Warmly,
Sage
