, GBR I've just written my first feature length screenplay - Belief, Myths and Curses. I also write plays and have written book, lyrics and music for two musicals.
Belief, Myths & Curses a feature length film set in 410 AD, located in Roman Britain, Italy and Tunisia. The Roman Empire fights for its life, the Church is bitterly divided over the interpretation of scripture. Against this backdrop, a young monk is called on a pilgrimage for truth. But what god calls him and what truth awaits?
A Merchant of Venice a radical adaptation of Shakespeare's play - this is The Merchant as you've never seen it. Who needs another proudction that celebrates white, protestant supremacy? Even though the text is preserved, in this work, its reordered so that the moral asserts the right to be of every race, creed and colour.
Sex, Drugs, Therapy And Mayhem my latest play is an hilarious parody on British colonialism. This comedy/drama has a very dark sting in its tail. During this April's sellout preveiw perfromances at The Troy Bar in London's fashionable area of Hoxton, this play was listed amongst Time Out's most viewed events. Now we return to The Troy Bar for a three month run. Tickets 8.00 from www.WeGotTickets.com
This play can also be seen at the Henley Fringe Festival 22nd - 25th July, 2009. www.sexdrugstherapyandmayhem.webeden.co.uk
On 12th November 2009, Three Royal Shakespeare Company actors join forces to deliver a rehearsed reading of my new play Permission Painted. Hildegard Neil, Ian Hogg and Richard Derrington take this stage with this piece at The Tristan Bates Theatre in the heart of London's West End. Details at www.permissionpainted.webeden.co.uk.
Royal Shakespeare Company actor and international star of screen, theatre and TV Hildegard Neil starred in the 2009 award winning UK tour of my play Impossible Steps Rosalind Blessed (daughter of Brian) co-starred. Its a comedy/drama that takes a wry look at our unfailing ability to get life wrong. The Watford Observer rated the play with a 5 star review saying "..it entertains and feeds mind, body and soul.." Hearsay Magazine gave the play a four star review, Extra! Extra! calls the work "..deliciously disorientating.." British Theatre says "..its the best new play I've seen in ages.." The play gas been discussed on various BBC Radio arts programmes and also featured in the arts publication Cent Magazine. www.impossiblesteps.webeden.co.uk
My two, musicals are Midsummer Night's Song www.midsummernightssong.webeden.co.uk a modern, upbeat adaptation of Shakespeare's play and The Person Residing at Longwood www.napoleonmusical.webeden.co.uk a classical-styled account of Napoleon's St. Helena exile. A cd of excerpts from this show is on sale through Solomon & Co, St. Helena's leading retailer.
Another of my plays Problem Day is published by New Theatre publications. The play has been taken up by the professional, learning disabled drama group, Actability Theatre Company of Bishops Stortford. They'll be performing the piece locally this year and touring with it next year.
I'm interested in connecting with people who are looking for collaborating opportunities.
