With one nod of the king’s crown, the ringing of his bell at the end of his three- point hat, a waving of his scepter, his highly distinguishable smile and the opening of his mouth, jokes glide rhythmically off Stephen Sheppard’s tongue. Known as The King’s Jester, Sheppard captivates audiences and moves them into a zone of laughter with Prayze performances.
Stephen ministers to your soul and soothes your spirit with uplifting, humorous jokes.
Whether in the ‘gospel arena’ or on stage, the span of laughter he produces crosses barriers of race, age, and religion. His shows address various issues in the life of every believer from young children to mature adults. From good, down-home wholesome comedy of Sesame Street characters holding church services to poking fun at ‘tambourine’ choir directors and saints getting their shout on …, Sheppard’s character impersonations are sure to make you break out with incessant laughter.
Sheppard is currently on a national tour with the Soul Funny Family Comedy Show, started by BET’s Comic View Host Steffon Vann. He tours with Vann and comedians Georgette “GL” Douglas, Goldiee and Terri Crook. He has also appeared on stage with Christian comedians ‘Chocolate’ Chinnitta Morris of BET’s Comic View and Def Comedy Jam, and Broderick E. Rice
As an actor, he is currently dazzling the performing arts stage as Rev. Bootler in the new and striking play “The House That Joy Built”, an ‘Around the Table Productions’ stage play. He co-stars with gospel singer Terrence Cotton from “A Good Man is Hard to Find”; and R&B Singer Gary “Lil’ G” Jenkins, from Tyler Perry’s stage play - “Madea’s Family Reunion”. He has also co-starred with actor Curtis Blake from Tyler Perry’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”. In addition, Sheppard has performed for renowned playwright David Payton of “That No Good Woman”.
Stephen has been a part of opening acts for national recording artists Kierra “Kiki” Sheard, Karen Clark-Sheard, Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson, Darrell McFadden, and North Carolina Central University’s gospel choir. He has worked with NFL Carolina Panthers player Michael Gaines of the Gaines’ MGK Foundation. He has also worked alongside rapper and actor Christopher “Play” Martin of the group Kid N’ Play.
Sheppard’s talents are vast. Aside from his extraordinary comedic and acting cleverness, he excels as an artist, musician, author, and entrepreneur. Most notably, Stephen Sheppard is a God-fearing, born-again Christian man who knows his purpose in life. He attends Koinonia Christian Center Church in Greenville, NC. God will always be at the forefront of his life as he travels throughout the United States and abroad as a comedian. He desires for his audience to remember that ... Job 8:21 declares, “He will fill your mouth with LAUGHTER and your lips with shouts of joy.” Laughter is Prayze!
Special Thanks: To my uncle, Bishop Zebedee Sheppard. Thank you for recognizing and pulling out a hidden gift inside of me that has yielded into a career in clean comedy. Love you "dad."
