The Living

Formed in Canada in 2006, The Living is a collection of highly skilled musicians brought together by the combination of their classical training and their mutual passion for artistic exploration. The band's evocative name reflects the diversity of styles present in their music, as well as their desire to push boundaries and to continually grow.

The Living is known for their ability to blend several genres seamlessly into a single song. Indeed, the band takes much of its influence from classical composers such as Stravinsky and Ravel, rockers Queen and Muse, world artists like Ozomatli and Shakti, and progressive visionaries The Mars Volta, Bjork, and Mike Patton, among many others.

The result: Violin fireworks. Primal rhythms. Tripped-out lyrics and sound textures. In short, an epic live show.

The Living would like to thank Jason Nett (guitars, bass, vocals), Ali Siadat (drums), Alyssa Stevenson (flute), Meg Todd (vocals), Jeremy Vint (trumpet) and Kyle Shepard (vocal FX, didjeridoo, percussion) for their contributions to the recordings.

Mike Bell played drums on all recorded tracks except Eye of the Day and Global Citizen, as well as sitar on Matakat. Elyse Jacobson played viola and electrified violin on the Bedd Tracks EP.

Praise for Bedd Tracks:

"[T]his [is] progressive rock – at least in the true, progressing forward, sense of the word. The music here is incredibly dynamic and it’s amazing how many changes they put into these tracks – and yet keep it cohesive.... This is an EP and as such is short. It’s also killer."
-Gary Hill, Music Street Journal

"Bedd Tracks is a great example of what this band can do(;) all four tunes stand on their own, making you want more material from (The Living). The music here isn't light fusion nor is it jittery, it's accessible with sensibility for the melodic pop/rock factor in mind, yet the keep the artistic focus front and center - it's a perfect balance."

-Tommy Hash, Ytsejam.com
